Durban Poison, a sweet resinous Sativa strain, is one of the best choices for daytime medication. Originating from the seaside city of Durban, South Africa, Durban Poison has been called “the perfect strain to help you stay productive through a busy day, when exploring the outdoors, or to lend a spark of creativity.”
Durban Poison grows tall, like most Sativa plants, but it’s especially well known for its oversized resin glands. This extra-resinous bud is favored by growers, medical marijuana patients, and concentrate extractors because of the heavy layer of trichome frost on the outside of the plant.
Durban Poison is widely known for its eclectic upbringing effects. It’s known for elevating mood and alleviating pain as well as stimulating energy within fatigued patients. This is due to the strains pure sativa genetics, which have been crossed with other strains to create hybrid strains, but Durban Poison, on its own, has the effects of a potent sativa. The creativity and energy which Durban Poison (and other sativa strains) causes patients to feel is what allows many medical cannabis patients to leave their homes and go outside to not only complete day to day tasks, but also to hike and walk around and enjoy nature when it wasn’t possible in the past.

Included below are three reviews of Durban Poison which MMJ patients posted on Leafly, a marijuana strain network for patients.
“Durban Poison is like the “espresso” of cannabis. The raciest sativa I know of, it’s a stimulating and clearheaded high with no trace of numbing or “stoning.” It wakes you up, cuts through the bleary fog and leaves you clearheaded and bright, gives you energy to go and seize the day. Gives tons of energy and also an intense emotional euphoria… where everything is vibrating and you can’t take the smile off your face. Can cause anxiety and paranoia if you are upset, it doesn’t make you numb. Recommended for mountain biking, jogging, driving, studying, reading, and partying / socializing with smart people. My sample had purple leaf overtones, a licorice / anise smell and taste. FIRE.” -MrTibet
“I had heard about this strain for nausea control and wanted to try it. Found some at Oregon’s Finest in PDX. Visually, this sample has smallish, tightly packed buds, that are medium green, with dark brown hairs interspersed lightly. There are white crystal forests all over the surfaces. A little difficult to grind because of the density and resin. Vaping at 380 produced a light vapor, which tasted mostly of pine, and made me want to cough on occasion. First few hits over five minutes did almost nothing. However, this strain is a creeper. After 5-10 minutes I began to get the familiar sativa brain-hug and spaceyness. It made me want to smile. This is a very uplifting strain. It made me appreciate sounds more vibrantly. Would be a good strain for listening to music or enjoying nature. It completely alleviated my nausea, but didn’t make me want to eat everything in sight, which is rare. Not really good for pain control, other than as a distraction. Didn’t make me sleepy at all. No anxiety or paranoia. Overall, a good solid uplifting, daytime medicine for nausea, anxiety, depression, etc.” –U420
“Migraine pain 6; nausea 5 when I medicated round 1300 or so. Takes bout 5 min to start working. Pain/nausea gone. Head high strong but also energetic; got my laundry all folded & put away. Body high saved my @$$ from goin to the ER today; pain was goin bad fast before medicating. Piney/skunky taste, I love a good taste to my meds. Really makes for a positive experience. Highly recommend for daytime use for pain/nausea. :-)” -Sweetbutter80
